Trusting God’s Word – The Battle is His!

2 Chronicles 20:15 (NKJV)
Thus says the Lord to you: “Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.”

When fear and doubt arise, cling to God’s promises. The Lord told Jehoshaphat that the battle belonged to Him — and the same is true for you.

There are moments in life when the weight of our circumstances feels overwhelming. We face trials that seem insurmountable, and fear tries to grip our hearts. Yet, in these moments, God reminds us that the battle is not ours to fight alone.

In 2 Chronicles 20, King Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah faced a terrifying enemy. Outnumbered and vulnerable, they turned to God in prayer and fasting. In response, the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jahaziel, who proclaimed these comforting words: “Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.”

This declaration wasn’t just for Jehoshaphat — it’s a promise for us today. God fights for His people. When we surrender our battles to Him, we invite His power to work on our behalf. Exodus 14:14 reminds us of this saying, “The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.” Likewise, Psalm 46:1 reminds us that “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”

Trusting in God’s Word means believing His promises even when the odds seem stacked against us. It requires faith to stand still and watch His salvation unfold. Jehoshaphat led his people in worship before the battle even began, confident in God’s faithfulness. And true to His Word, God delivered them without them having to lift a sword.

Are you facing a battle today?
-Rest in His promises.
-Surrender your fears and anxieties to God.
Just remember… The battle belongs to the Lord — and He never fails.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I surrender my battles to You today. Help me trust in Your Word and rest in the truth that You fight for me. Strengthen my heart and fill me with peace as I stand still and see Your salvation. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflection:

  • What battles are you facing today that you need to surrender to God?
  • How can you grow in trusting God’s promises when things seem out of control?
