FACE THE SON

Psalm 121:1-2 (NKJV)
“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.”

This summer, I want you to think about the sunflower. It’s not just a beautiful flower… it’s a living sermon that God planted right in the soil.

Sunflowers have a unique trait called heliotropism. While they’re growing, they literally follow the sun across the sky. From sunrise to sunset, their faces stay turned toward the light. At night, they turn back east, ready for the morning.

That’s a picture of the Christian life. We are called to keep our eyes on Jesus … the Son.

“Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.’”
– John 8:12 (NKJV)

Like the sunflower, we don’t just face the Son when skies are clear. Even in the dark, we position ourselves for the light we know is coming. Psalm 30:5 reminds us: “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.”

Think of Paul and Silas in that Philippian jail. At midnight, when everything was dark, they prayed and sang hymns. They turned their faces toward God, and He shook the prison open.

And here’s another lesson from the sunflower: when it matures, it stands tall and produces thousands of seeds. Friend, God didn’t call you just to soak in His light. He called you to bear fruit and spread His love.

“By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.”
– John 15:8 (NKJV)

Even when life feels heavy, you can stand tall and point others toward Jesus. Your faith may be the shade someone else needs while they grow.

So today, I encourage you… whatever your season… to turn your face toward the Son. In the light, He grows you. In the dark, He prepares you. And in due time, He will produce a harvest through you that will bless others.

Prayer

Lord, help me keep my eyes on You. Even in the dark, remind me that joy comes in the morning. Let my life bear fruit and point others toward Your light. Amen.

Blessings!

Every time you see a sunflower… or even the sun… let it remind you to face the Son.

Choose one way today to point someone else toward Jesus.
